About 4:30 my cell phone became useless as its "emer calls only". Seems Cricket is having a pretty much nationwide outage according to DownDetector.com. Doesn't look good as it won't let me log on to my account on their website either. There CS phone just rings and no answer with humans or recordings. Their online CS chat is also down. Maybe they bit the big one.
Fortunately I also have a VOiP with GV. I tried calling 2 friends that also have Cricket and they just ring also and never goes to VM.

Anyone else have cricket?

Yeah, I was okay, just a little sore for a few days - mostly my left shoulder.  The airbag deployed and the front end of the car absorbed the impact as it is supposed to - no damage to the interior - or me.  What pissed me off most was that it was a nice car ('99 Civic) that I had only been driving for a couple of months. I got about $2,800. from the insurance company, but that's not enough to get another car like that.  Now I'm back to driving the old car that I was going to get rid of, though I found a Corolla that I can afford, with low miles - have to work out the details.

glad you're ok

corollas are one of the most popular cars on the planet

i have had great results with hondas (i now drive a mazda and i'm very pleased)

self driving cars will be pretty common in the near future

also the new safety tech coming out now like blind spot monitoring and front end collision avoidance is great

as more sensors are deployed cars will be safer and prices should fall

win

I totaled my car a few weeks ago because a driver (20 year-old) ran a red light at an intersection.  There were some hedges and a slight decline on the left where she was coming from and I couldn't see here approaching; before I knew it there was a car directly in front of me.  For anyone to run a red light at that speed she had to either be entirely reckless or more likely texting (or both).   Well, it could have been much worse, at least she entered the intersection before I did, otherwise she could've slammed into my car at the driver's side door.

I have been rear-ended twice by teenage girls, I walked back to check on one and she had more electronic devices with her than a Radio Shack store room

I think I could like this idea - as long as the device indicates only usage, not actual data.

We're bot pretty certain the guy who rear-ended us a few weeks ago was futzing with his phone at the time, but without a lot of legal expense, there's no way we can prove it.

Seconds later, along comes another car with a driver with ear buds in holding and manipulating his phone with his hand while his eyes were fixed on it and not looking through the windshield.

If driving with your head figuratively up your ass so that you can neither see nor hear what's going on around you isn't prima facie unsafe, I don't know what is. Maybe we should take people's phones away for a year if they get caught doing something this careless.

I would say that at least half of the drivers I observe around here have a phone in their hand. I'm all for almost draconian enforcement of laws that prohibit such stupidity and for riders on insurance policies denying coverage if you cause an accident while jacking with a phone. Put the goddam thing in your pocket and drive the car.
