I've been around there several times, but I don't think I've ever stopped in that town.  I think she and her family got out of there when she was pretty young and moved to the DC area.

I always liked her voice, even more than the voices of her contemporaries; though she was a powerful singer there was something subtle and vulnerable about the way she sang.  This song may seem corny or overplayed to a lot of folks but I think it's a great tune.  She's from Black Mountain, NC.

   You brought back imigages of my Mum singing old Irish rebel songs from the rebellion in Southern Ireland in the early 20,s. The Minstrel Boy and many more.
   She used to have a few guinneses at a party and everyone would want to hear the old songs.It was quite a while after the fighting,but the old songs never die out.
   Every time I hear a good old rebel tune I get a tear or two in my eye. Wish I could go back in time and hear her again. O well. Thanx for bringing back some memories.

Jo Stafford was my Dad's favorite female singer. I recently created a new Pandora station based on Nat King Cole, (one of the best voices ever!) and Jo Stafford pops up now and then, along with Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ella, Count Basie, etc.

I LOVE that stuff!

Or even better yet, listen to  this (if I got the link right to play the whole song and not just the first 30 seconds)

When your live is a all haze, that you never get through
Do you long for the days when you knew what to do?
When your mind is in deep freeze but your heart is on track
When you see what you want, do you ever look back?

Just put your thoughts away,
 Never mind how it seems
'Cause everybody's afraid,
everybody has times when life splits at the seams

It's not the way that you think
It's not the things that you do
Cause there's nobody around
Who can live his whole life any better than you
And I've been trying hard to face what I've become
So I can live and breathe the love inside these arms

When it finally comes, when your eyes overflow
What you feel in the night, everybody should know

When your tongue is untied and your mind starts to reel
And you know you can't hide everything that you feel

Just put your thoughts away, never mind how it seems
'Cause everybody's afraid, everybody has times when life splits at the seams

It's not the way that you think, it's not the things that you do
'Cause here's nobody around who can live his own live any better than you

But  I've been trying hard to face what I've become
So I can live and breathe the love inside these arms

When I'm holding you there's one thing you'll never do
You'll never go away, don't you see why I keep holding on?

'Cause I've been trying hard to face what I've become
So I can live and breathe the love inside these arms (I've been trying hard to face what I've become)
So I can live and breathe and the love   inside these arms

 I've been tryin hard to face what I've become
 So I can love and breathe and die inside these arms

Sorry: Marti Jones - (If I Could) Walk Away

{#Sad}{#Arghhh}{#Cry}{#Think}{#Cry}{#Cry}{#Cry}      WTF?     {#Frustrated}    and finally   {#Beat}

bokey wrote:

She's totally and completely banned from RP for some reason. If you upload any of her songs to the LRC they will get tossed   quicker than a White House fence jumper would by the Secret Service . {#Yes}

Yet Sam  Phillips, who is like her clone(well, without the Don Dixon handicap) is adored.

 Go figger. {#Stupid}

  I've been thinking about the RP anti Marti- pro Sam bias.

 I've never seen either one in person but it seems from the guitar playing that Marti has stronger  hands that just cover the strings nicely, while Sam has small hands that cause a bit of struggle and distraction with her guitar playing. Maybe that air of instability and rawness are what qualifies her for RP, as opposed to Marti with her much stronger playing and  the slick production from her husband? {#Stupid}

 Of course, I'm open to opposing  discussion.

 Someone tell me why this song isn't good enough for RP, please? I didn't upload it , as I only have it on cassette, and it's not like I'd bother trying to transpose it and upload it, knowing it's fate was sealed before the fact. I did upload the Marti song "If I Could Walk Away"  and it got shot down quicker than an Iranian F-14 doing a fly by over the White House would have. Of course, since that's more of a aircraft carrier based plane, it would cause some concern that they had an aircraft carrier somehere close enough to launch the thing. {#Stupid}  Man, if we could find a way to capture the heat off that thing after we torched it, we could heat a few of our smaller inner cities.
  I'm all for that kind of spending.

 Anyway, if RP will play some Marti Jones songs I won't  personally destroy any Iranian aircraft. At any rate, it's a pretty long swim and I'm not up to it, so I guess they're safe regardless. Maybe if I say "irregardless" I can rile the RP Grammar cops  to help alleviate this most egregious non Marti playing situation. (Wow- than God for spell check, eh? )

 Umm, and goodnight. {#Shifty}{#Wave}{#Lol}{#Sleep}

You spoke to me
Of your divided loyalty
Of circumstantial fraud
And blessings in disguise

And every pledge  we made
Dissolved and then began to fade
Human error, we agreed
 It was a careless oversight. . .

You woke me up
To say goodbye and wish me luck
In anything I did
With any other boy

And then you stopped at the door
Gave the look you know I adore
Said you expected me to follow you all over the world

 Three weeks in Rome
In someone else's summer home
An unsophisticated time
We were foolish all the while

We went to all the racy films
And you said, "Get a load of them"
At the lovers on the screen
And all the lovers down the aisles

All my friends say, "Quit"
They tell me I'll get over it

But every time you call
My heart is in a whirl

I Don't care if you're my weekend pal
I Don't care if I'm your sometimes gal

Wouldn't hesitate to follow you
All over the world.

There'll be  no fading away
Long as you call me your holiday

This has to be the best one yet
A singing telegram from you in Tibet
Did you really think I'd come?
Drop everything and run?

It's really much too far away
I couldn't half afford it anyway!
Meet me somewhere in between
'Neath the cedar trees of Lebanon

And we'll walk hand in hand
Leave footprints in the burning sand
While Beirut goes  up
In the flames of war, I swirl

But for us, it's just a-like before
I'm addicted and I beg for more
Of your enticing me to follow you All over the world. . .
I'm gonna follow you
All over the world. . .

******************************************************************************************
 And then she married the guy, has a nice life  and learned to paint pretty darn well. {#Clap}

  Damn she deserves better than this from RP. {#Lol}
