I've heard a lot abut that at work - we get some atrocious phone calls from parents.  People who don't think thats its a person on the other end of the line - it can be really hurtful and even psychologically damaging.    The other end of it is that when you are a faceless worker (supermarket drone?) then people feel that they can take it out on you.  You are wearing the badge/uniform, you can take it for the company.  The anonymity of a uniform makes people think thats acceptable.
