I mean it was definitely over the top of the wall and the outfielder slumped as one does when a homer goes over his glove, so it sure seemed like a homer but I started to get suspicious that I'd screwed up when zero headlines talked about it.
That's what's great about baseball... Just wait until arbitration, when he's 1 home run shy of 20 (or 30).... and 2 RBIs short of 100. Hit a grand slam... and get no home run credit and 1 RBI instead of 4.
Score tied 5-5, bottom of the 9th, 2out, bases loaded. New callup goes to a full count on a pitcher (no I don't know any names) who had 30+ pitches in the inning. Fouled off 3 or 4 3-2 pitches until the pitcher had to groove one and let the defense catch it. They did not catch it. Twins had bases loaded so any run scored wins the game instantly. Batter hits a grand slam but fails to reach 2nd base before the team mobs him and umps declare the game over. Normally would be final score 9-5 but this ended at 6-5.
Apparently that was Alan Roden's first game appearance this year. 2 for 5 on the season.

Twins just beat Cleveburg with a Grand Slam Single.
edit: Just a long long long single off the scoreboard above the padding but still in play. Game over as soon as the runner on 3rd crossed the plate.

Most of what I've seen has been coded language of support with the deciphered message: "We suck." Could be just me thinking it ain't working out. But I also don't want to give the preseason nattering nabobs any reason to say "I told you so" so I really really want Vitello to A) bench some players and condemn their behavior and A(Part B) Apologize for his own role/nonrole and B(Part A) Win some games and B(Part2) play well even if the game is lost. There've been a lot of mental errors that come from the manager (I think) assuming that big-league ballplayers don't need constant reinforcement of the basics, so they're bungling things that a good minor league team drills on often. I don't know whether the Giants do or not, but they are finding new ways to play the game and most of those are not successful.
Tony Vitello probably will have a couple of years to get things in order but... 33-47 in San Francisco â another off-field embarrassment (I hope) means he's gone.

You know... being tied going to the 9th almost felt like cheating. When they were down 5-0 after 3, I figured yesterday was the "payback" game.... but nope!
Now we need to continue helping with the Mets implosion.
The Nationals seem to have some bullpen problems...
and the hits just keep on comin'! they did it again last night
