Yep. A commish with balls would just ban gambling like Judge Landis did, ban some players for life like Landis did, and say "come at me." These esoteric rulings on severability etc. need to be challenged with a more simple ruling: gambling destroys legitimate industries and that is the greater evil.

I did not see this coming at all. I remember saying to you in this thread that the season was largely over. Now they've passed the Yankmes and are within striking distance of the Jays. I really wish they'd added another quality starter by the deadline, though.

Also shocking but over a long time span: Jarren Duran went from being a messed-up rookie who gave up after a fly ball went over his head (allowing an inside-the-park HR) to being a defensive whiz and all-round star whom the Sox wouldn't trade.

If you haven't checked it out, Gene, the Netflix documentary about Boston's '24 season is quite good.

That was rough; I probably would've asked the manager to take me out after I got back to the dugout.

I didn’t get inside form yard work until 9ish or the bottom of the 6th. Really wanted to see Crochet pitch for the Sox.

Some years, some teams put on a magic show and make it to the playoffs with far less than a championship team. The Giants have some trophies to prove it. This year they played way above their—well I was going to say "pay grade," but they are paying some big salaries—station, but they've come crashing back to earth and won't finish with a winning record or anything near it if they keep this up. 6 in a row now, with last night's being one of the worst games in the majors this year. Even Jung Hoo Lee was playing like a little leaguer —"I got it! You take it!"

They've let this kid Hayden Birdsong collapse so thoroughly, he might not pitch again unless the Giants do the stupid thing and keep him on the roster. He needs to be sent down and brought back to play with less desperate pressure on him.

This is my complaint about the Allstar Game. Tied up in the ninth, ok, go to the tenth with the usual setup runner on second. If nobody scores a run then do the home run thingy.

My problem with it is that it's nothing more than an opportunity for some of your best players to get injured in a game that doesn't matter.

My clock radio is an ancient Magnavox I won as a radio prize back in the early 90's.  Hard to tune, so it sits on WTAM which is a 50,000 watt flame thrower and always comes in, so I end up listening to whatever is on.  It is about dead as one of the alarm switches is not working properly anymore and goes off every 24 hours no matter what.  I'm open to any suggestions for a decent replacement that will fit on the headboard of my bed.  It is the size of a small loaf of bread and that is about all the space I have.

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying this.  I am.  D Man, Dennis Manoloff, the host of this knows his stuff, too.

Listening at work, the program was about to start and I got called away and missed it completely!

It's my experience that all AM radios are crap these days, you can't tune them perfectly because they're digital and expect 1260 to be exactly 1260. Maybe I'm just imagining it. But for a replacement, I'd make it a hobby to cruise thrift stores looking for something with old tech, or get a fully moderne wifi speaker. I listen to Giants baseball for free on Alexa KNBR 680. They used to block the broadcasts but don't anymore.
