What Sanders Calls Himself: A democratic socialist. He defines this as using government power to reduce extreme income inequality, guarantee universal healthcare, and remove the influence of money in politics, drawing inspiration from Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal and European welfare states.
What Policy Experts See: A social democrat. His legislative goals focus on reforming capitalism rather than replacing it. He campaigns on strengthening the social safety net, raising taxes on the wealthy, expanding labor rights, and providing universal public programsâall hallmarks of Nordic-style social democracyâwhile leaving private enterprise and market economies intact.
Once again, old school Dems, like Carville, are fighting AGAINST something... not much being said on fighting FOR something.

Except that is not their real fear. Their real fear is that the left will go on to *win* the general election, and, like Mamdani in NYC, prove that the left can govern. They are willing to throw the general election to Republicans by smearing the left and dividing and demoralizing the Dem base to avoid that outcome.
How do we know they are willing gamble in this way? Because that's how Trump won the first time.
I live in Colorado and find it to be a state that has mostly balanced the issues of entitlement, environment etc programs, with reasonable taxation.
Colorado is constitutionally required to pass a balanced budget and when the state generates a surplus, it is redistributed to taxpayers (a common occurrence over the past ten years).
New progressives are proposing an aggressive and progressive tax rate up to 8.4%, with rates/income levels not indexed to inflation (current tax is flat 4.4%)
Sure, there are things that need more funding, mostly medicaid/healthcare related, but...
Democratic Gov. Jared Polis, who canât run for re-election this year, has said a graduated income tax would be âabsolutely devastatingâ to Coloradoâs economy.
and then there is congressional candidate Melat Kiros, who cant even admonish a gunmen who shot jewish people in boulder last year.
But there is an underlying feeling that we share in Canada, and its importance cannot be overstated.
People are furious with ultra rich, powerful elites.
The social contract has been broken. People who work for a wage or salary (not a dividend or bonus) just canât make the household math make sense.
And weâre looking up at the unlimited wealth of the 1% and we are pissed.
This groundswell of populist rage is legitimate, and itâs a completely predictable consequence of our economic system and how it has been managed for the last 50 years.
The desire to push back against the smug arrogance and creepy impunity of elites is a defining force in politics today.
It will either be harnessed by progressive politics, to balance the scales of society and make a fairer economy for allâ¦
Or it will fuel fascism.
Thatâs the choice. And happily, it's up to us!
Which is why Iâm so grateful to be doing the work of rebuilding the NDP into a national fighting force for the working class, and to see so many people rushing through the wide-open doors of our movement.
