Is the new song submissions system down? I ask because I submitted two songs this past Saturday, and I don't see them under the new listings.

Not that my song suggestions are all that important... but I noticed that the newest submission since Saturday has been Toto's "Africa," and I can't hep but think that other listeners have tried to load new submissions since then as well.

Something went wrong with one of my submissions though. I clicked the Submit Song button and nothing seemed to happen, so I clicked it again. Apparently it was half-way through processing the first one, as it appears to have butchered the first submission.

The OCD freak within me would like the second one deleted, though might be worth seeing whether you can replicate the problem - looks like it's specific to if you interrupt the page while it's in the process of stripping-out the important bits from the YouTube embed.

OK. Fixed that for you.

You're right, there's a very, very short window during which interrupting the page load can have unpredictable consequences. I'll see what I can do about that.

It is not brain surgery. {#Wink}

If you can throw a music file and a nice image in (Windows) Movie Maker, then you're halfway there.

Also - sorta related: BUG: in the Music Search tab, the search mech seems recently borken.  Searching for a partial artist name no longer works.  George Ezra yields results, but searching for Ezra comes up with bupkiss.  Same with Tegan & Sara.  Tegan or Sara yields nothing; and worse "Tegan and Sara" also yields zip.  A working partial name search would seem to be a good thing to have.   ;-

OK. This is fixed. If it gets a match on the exact search term, it returns that. If not, it does a partial-name search.  It also accepts "and" and "&" interchangeably.

FLAC is lossless, so by definition there shouldn't be any audible difference across compression quality settings. The only difference would exist in the final size of the FLAC file, as well as the CPU power used/needed to encode/decode the FLAC when it's created/played. There are some non-standard encoders as well, but I suspect GNU FLAC (which I don't know) and encoders based on libFLAC are the most faithful to the standard. The other implementations should be avoided for compatibility purposes.

I tend to use level 8, however in a few tests I did I found no difference in file size compared to level 6.

You're right that the new system does eliminate the ability to upload some obscure older material that's not on any of the 3 platforms. You can email us directly in that case.

Two examples come to mind immediately, both Peter Gabriel, In Your Eyes Live in Athens and Quiet Steam.  Granted this is such a small category of music in the big picture.

Lastly, should an obscure track make the cut and a flac is requested, there are 8 levels of flac quality.  Would there be a minimum acceptable level ?

I think that version of "In Your Eyes" is on the playlist, but some more obscure stuff could be pretty challenging to find in an 'up-loadable' format, though that's not new.

I'm not sure it's desirable or not but what do you think about saying who uploaded a particular track?

Again, not sure it's important but will these uploads be added to the user's profile at some point?

If I want to point someone to a particular song I uploaded is there a way to do that other than just grabbing the URL of the popup window?

And finally, I commented on my upload, then someone else did too, and it kind of blew up.

edit: This posting behavior happens on other tracks too.

1 comment: correct
2nd comment added: it falls to the right of the first
3rd comment added: 1st now stacks up correctly,  2nd/3rd are messed up. Total comments count still shows 2 comments. Close/reopen comments pane, 3rd comment displays correctly, 1st/2nd go back to being messed up.
4th comment added: similar behavior, still shows as only 2 comments.

Accidentally deleted my original comment, oops, deleted test comments too, other person's (now single) comment still formats incorrectly. Total shows as 1 comment.

Thanks. It's still hotter than the main on the few songs I listened to, but at least I can use my normal controls to turn it down. Before, using the apple keyboard, with the rp slider set at about 90% (I want the music to be louder than the system beeps etc), I can keep my system volume at around 50%. But I had to turn down the Submissions music to about 10%, if that makes any sense. Now it's around 30% so I still have wiggle room if a particular song is too loud.

Note the answer to the query, the parameter takes values between 0.0 and 1.0, not 0-100 as the API says.

I tried it with 10% (0.1) like in the example and it was still sufficiently loud, but you be the judge...
