Artists Who I Don't Particularly Care For, But Who Have Had Long Careers For Some Reason I Can't Quite Explain, But it Sure Can't be Because Other People Seem to Like Their Music. No, That Can't be It.

Try the old version of the song when he was fun, so we could have fun.
You're right. At first I thought it would be interesting to see how shameless they can get about milking the old hit, but it's not interesting, just annoying and embarrassing. One Particular Harbor is good, I didn't know about it. But if I have to hear Margaritaville on the radio one more time, someone is going to pay.
That clip from Ellen was indeed embarrassing, especially to an old parrothead. His concerts stopped being fun towards the mid 90's when he had to tone things down for his corporate sponsors. I especially find the salt, salt, salt addition to Margaritaville especially annoying, but its his song so ... Yeah, airplay, its ruined so many songs for so many. Fortunately, I haven't listened much to terradio for over 15 since finding RP and a lot of songs that got played to death have a new life.

You ain't a parrot head. Try the old version of the song when he was fun, when we could have fun ...
He had plenty o hits. Like this one ... best started at 2:20
He gets no justice here. There are a few other legitimate hits that got ton's of airplay for years. Fins, Volcano and Cheeseburger in Paradise to name the most popular. And my favorite version of one of his best songs ever ... I'll stop now.
I am thinking of people who had big, big careers based on one song. Kenny Rogers comes to mind but I know that he was famous before The Gambler.
Yeah, some acts have a few minor hits, then one really big hit making them superstars for a time before they slowly fade away - some slower than others.
So far, none of the acts featured in this thread fit the thread's description; unlike this guy:
I am thinking of people who had big, big careers based on one song (bonus points if they are still doing it). Kenny Rogers comes to mind but I know that he was famous before The Gambler.
