"Prado's first U.S. tour came in 1951, with Beny More accompanying him; because of musicians' union rules, he was often forced to hire local musicians in place of his Mexican personnel, and train them rigorously in a very short period of time with little knowledge of English"
I'm guessing those Union rules are a thing of the past?
I don't recognize all the songs but if i had to pick the best song (ie: my fave) from that list: My Sharona. The worst, it's a 3-way tie: Mambo No. 5, Tubthumping & Macarena.
Mambo No. 5 is awesome, made a bit less so by the German guy and his lyrics. The Perez Prado original tho...
And Tubthumping might be vapid but that band put on one of the most fun shows I've ever been to. I said funnest but Grammarly wouldn't let me.
They really ignored a lot of '70s classics (as well as earlier decades): Afternoon Delight, Kung Fu Fighting, Sky High, Chevy Van, Seasons In The Sun, Come and Get Your Love, etc.
Simple Minds doesn't really fit their definition.
I was surprised to see Simple Minds in there.

True, there's never enough room; just 1974's Top 100 had quite a few by itself. These guys were around for years, but I guess they only had one big hit. Some of my friends used to make fun of me because I liked this song:

Artists Who I Don't Particularly Care For, But Who Have Had Long Careers For Some Reason I Can't Quite Explain, But it Sure Can't be Because Other People Seem to Like Their Music. No, That Can't be It.
Â
Oh I have no doubt that other people seem to like the music or it would not sell. I am always quick to indict the fans of these groups more than the groups themselves. I am not going to blame anyone for taking money.
Top ten selling artist of 2018 so far.....drum roll:
1. Drake
2. Cardi B
3. The Weeknd
4. Camila Cabelo
5. Post Malone
6. Beba Rexha
7. Migos
8. Kendrick Lamar
9. Imagine Dragons
10. SZA
I have only heard of a few of these artist, but if you have not feel free to look them up and give their music a sample. This is what is selling so I do not take too much stock in correlation of an artist commercial success and quality of the music.

In other words, we have the song comments section for this. :shudder:
