Yeah, the 'Japanese' clue threw me and Maryte off. It was the music/environment part that clinched it.
The title is supposed to mean 'Life out of balance' or something like that. There was a follow-up movie that didn't fare nearly as well.

What was the heart-rending Japanese film from the eighties about the 70 year old woman in the village who walked up the hill never to return so as not to be a burden on the others in her old age (was customary practice apparently). I doubt very much it had a trailer or started with the letter K but it was a moving film.
