Kurster, I've never seen trails like that out here in Antioch or in the 40 mile radius which I frequent. I look at the sky a lot, too. It's not like I've got my head down all the time, looking for artifacts

Contrails that last and spread do so because they have literally become clouds: see "cloud seeding."  Intermittent contrails are so because the atmospheric conditions that cause/allow them are also intermittent.  Black ones are likely fuel dumps—still, alas, fairly common practice as maximum landing weights must not be exceeded.

Different altitudes of the airplanes, different chemical mixtures in the exhausts of different engines, subtly different fuels . . . there's lots of reasons why you'd see different-looking contrails being produced at any given time.

Seriously, I give a fair amount of credence to the "Chemtrail" theories.  I've seen how some of the "contrails" seem to last and last and last and they will spread out and intersect with other jet trails and soon the whole sky is a lace-work.

It's uncanny.

But I'm not going to say that I think it's a conspiracy... yet.

Take a look at the pictures from my earlier post in the large view from the link and tell me that they are contrails from ice crystals.  Looks like smoke to me.  Tell me how you can start and stop contrails, either they are continual or they aren't.  Normal contrails are not intermitant in that close of proximity.  I have also seen pictures of black chem trails, a recent addition to the mix.  I'll find a couple pictures of them and put em up.
