I suspect laughter is necessary to keep one's spirit free, but as I look around the world, in this dark age, at what we deem to be, I begin to understand, more and more, what Epictetus was saying. The icon of insanity is a laughing man who cannot stop laughing.
This is truth, and has ever been so. However, a healthy sense of humor is, by definition, requisite for a healthy life, extremes notwithstanding. Witness a childs laughter as one of the most comforting sounds there is. "You cannot go on seeing through things forever. The whole point of seeing through something is to see something through it. . . . If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To see through all things is the same as not to see." C.S.Lewis

I was wondering if anyone here enjoys reading and/or talking philosophy? And what your favorite philosophers might be?
I'm a fan of Art Schopenhauer (he's really not THAT pessimistic), Fred Nietzsche (though I don't hang on his every word, Thus Spoke Zarathustra is a nice read), John Locke (has/had some interesting thoughts), Thomas Jefferson (was he a philosopher?), Jiddu Krishnamurti (Think on These Things), and a not too well known Romanian/French existentialist, Emil Cioran (The Trouble With Being Born).
