Agreed on the 1st sentence. We pretend that our country is so socially advanced, but the truth is that females like Palin, Pelosi, & Clinton are targets of intense media coverage simply because they are female. Aren't we impressive?!? Anyway, Pelosi did do the job she was elected to do. Of course, like all other politicians, she also has made mistakes. As a Californian, I can guarantee you this isn't the 1st time Pelosi has been questioned about the use of an USAF aircraft for her transportation and its accompanying bar tab. Then she made a lot of people question her by saying stupid stuff like, "We need to pass the bill so we can find out what's in it". To me, the aircraft is a logical solution to her travel as long as it is not for excessive personal use or to aid in campaigning. Now we both know, all she has to do is make one "official" stop and then campaign to get around this (and I'm sure others in office do this as well). The taxpayer-funded alcohol bill, however, is simply inexcusable. There is absolutely no real reason taxpayers should be on the hook for her, her guests', or her staff's consumption of any drug. Pelosi is smart enough to know that that is unacceptable, but she obviously doesn't care. That really sucks. As for her literal admission that she (and many others) had voted for a bill they didn't fully read (and therefore couldn't completely understand), well, that is what I would call treasonous, let alone not doing one's job. I don't believe only those that voted for the health reform bill failed to do their duties and, in fact, acted in a way that was detrimental to our country, but those that voted against it are guilty as well. Given that the bill was not fully read from page one to the very end prior to voting on it, the only acceptable thing to do was to abstain from voting on it at all, forcing the complete bill to be evaluated/scrutinized. As you can see, I don't fault Pelosi alone for the passing of that bill, but every single House member who failed to ensure that they knew what the hell they were voting on. Then if they had passed it, I would have had sufficient faith in the reform to say, "Bravo!". As it is, all we can guarantee that we got (in the long run) out of that reform is uncertainty. Pelosi played a part in that and that is disappointing for someone who is supposed to be a leader. OK, all you non-Californians can go back to talking about our state's Congresswoman again.

We need equal time for Democratic Women here. The chief complaint is that there is no discussion of Liberals, its all about Conservatives.
We have hundreds of pages of posts about Palin. No one is talking about Hillary anymore. So who is left ?
How can we ignore the most powerful woman in American politics. It is not fair.
Is there some reason you find not to discuss Ms. Pelosi ? She is the distaff face of the Democratic Party. We need to know more about her and apply the same scrutiny that you and so many others apply to Palin. Palin is out of office and out of power. Pelosi is SOTH. A worthy subject of discussion. Pelosi fully believes that she will be Speaker again in 2012.
Why Palin and not Pelosi ? Care to answer that one ?

BasmntMadman wrote: No, it's meant to be taken very seriously. Now that the Republicans are in power, their schtick is that they're going to save immense amounts of money by going after waste and corruption, which they are going to track down relentlessly, just as long as it's a Democratic politician's waste'n'corruption.
They'll loudly proclaim all their findings as a massive advertising campaign, which will divert the public's attention from the fact that they're not making any significant dent in government deficits - unless they make massive cuts in government services.
The Democrats, if they have any neurons in their little skulls at all, can mount a devastating counterattack. The Republicans, in their prosecutorial zeal, are just like the neighbor who complains to the borough that your car is parked on the wrong side of the street, or the vintage car you're restoring isn't parked on a hard surface, or you've replaced your toilet seat without borough approval. Just like the employer who aims a camera at the employees and hopes to catch any and all deviations from company policy no matter how small.
Oh, and BTW, by focusing an intense light on Democrats, the same light can be shone on Republicans.
Meanwhile, the deficits are still there.
It's all a 3-ring dog and pony show. SP is a prime example, an icon of the ridiculousness in politics right now. Nancy Pelosi, whether you like her or not, did the job she was hired to do, and she did it well. I have a lot of admiration for her as a groundbreaking woman.
